The Lena Harris Foundation is a faith-rooted nonprofit organization founded in 2018 by Joseph Johnson in loving honor of his grandmother, Lena Harris—a woman whose life embodied faith, perseverance, and generosity. Her legacy continues to guide our mission.
Rooted in faith and purpose, the Foundation exists to uplift youth, strengthen communities, and advance hope through education, mentorship, advocacy, and meaningful action. At the heart of our work is intentional mentorship—connecting young people with experienced professionals who offer guidance, accountability, and real-world insight.
Through scholarships, mentoring programs, community partnerships, and events, we strive to create lasting impact while supporting efforts to find a cure for Lupus. This work is deeply personal and driven by the belief that when young people are supported, entire communities rise.

WHAT WE DO - Hope In Action!
Community Events & Fundraisers
We host impactful events that unite families, mentors, educators, and supporters while generating resources for our programs. Signature initiatives include our annual Scholarship & Awards Banquet, wellness-focused Walk/Run 5K events, and engaging fundraisers such as fantasy football leagues and tournament challenges. These experiences foster connection, celebrate achievement, and sustain our mentorship, scholarship, and outreach efforts

Mentorship
Mentorship is the heart of our service. The Lena Harris Foundation matches students with professionals in their respective fields of interest for structured, one-on-one mentoring over a designated period of time. These mentoring relationships are designed to provide guidance, career exposure, leadership development, and personal encouragement—helping students grow in confidence, clarity, and purpose.

Educational Scholarships
Education is a cornerstone of our mission. Each year, the Lena Harris Foundation Scholarship supports deserving students who exemplify academic excellence, leadership, and strong moral character. Our recipients—such as scholarship awardee Jerchelle George of J.P. Stevens High School, now pursuing Childhood Education at Montclair State University—reflect the promise, resilience, and purpose we strive to cultivate in every young leader we serve.
